We get our eggs from a farm in the next village that DH passes on the way to and from work. The chickens roam about the field, the orchard, the garden and the farmyard so we meet the producers, too! Best way to buy eggs if you can't keep your own hens :)
Sadly, we no longer have local chicken farms. I have considered raising my own, but zoning laws prohibit that right now. I search out organic, free range eggs in local small markets and have been fortunate. DH and I gauge the egg quality by what we eat while in France, on vacations. A simple egg, from a well cared for chicken, is as good as it gets:)
When my new neighbours moved in a couple of years ago, they decided to have a handful of chickens and we agreed on swapping eggs against kitchen garden products on a friendship basis.
We are still good friends, but due to catastrophes like hunting dogs, wild foxes, evil crows and sex maniac cocks - and on my 'green' front: the monster snails and burglar rabbits - we both have trouble even providing the own family with some of the precious goods ...
Still there is the farmer's shop co-operative in the village downhill ... fortunately, they seem to have some excess.

local produce is good and fresh eggs are definitely the best kind of eggs!!
at least you get to meet the chickens, so it's all good!

Yay! I buy local eggs at every available opportunity.

Great idea!... My first experience with raising chicks will start in about three weeks, wish me luck!
